FONTLOG for Orbita CZSK Higgs ============================= This file provides detailed information on the Orbita CZSK Higgs font software. This information should be distributed along with the font and any derivative works. Basic font information ---------------------- Orbita CZSK Higgs is a geometric display sans derived from Orbitron by Matt McInerney / The League of Moveable Type. The letterforms were reworked and the character set was extended to cover Slovak and Czech. Internally the project is tracked as "Orbitron_czskedit_higgs", but the released font cannot carry that name: "Orbitron" is a Reserved Font Name under the SIL Open Font License, and section 5.4 of the OFL FAQ does not permit a Modified Version to use a whole word from a Reserved Font Name. Hence the release name "Orbita CZSK Higgs". Orbita CZSK Higgs is licensed under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1. Character set ------------- Complete Slovak alphabet: a á ä b c č d ď e é f g h i í j k l ĺ ľ m n ň o ó ô p q r ŕ s š t ť u ú v w x y ý z ž and the corresponding capitals Complete Czech alphabet: adds ě/Ě, ř/Ř, ů/Ů Punctuation: quotedblbase, quotesinglbase, guillemets, en/em dash, ellipsis, plusminus, trademark, euro, degree, bullet, no-break space Total: 223 mapped codepoints, 273 glyphs Changelog --------- 29 Oct 2019 (Peter Voronak) v1.000 (date taken from the FontForge timestamp in the original export) - Reworked Orbitron Medium letterforms - Added Latin Extended-A glyphs for Slovak and most of Czech 28 Jul 2026 (Peter Voronak) v1.002 - Added ecaron (U+011B) and Ecaron (U+011A); Czech coverage now complete - Added quotesinglbase (U+201A) and quotedblbase (U+201E) - the primary Slovak and Czech quotation marks, built from the font's own comma - Added guillemotleft (U+00AB), guillemotright (U+00BB), plusminus (U+00B1) and trademark (U+2122); stroke weight matched to the font's stem (108 units) by outline dilation, then cleaned with a boolean union - Restored copyright and licence records stripped by the FontForge export - Renamed the family to comply with the Orbitron Reserved Font Name - Removed a Candara Light face that had been bundled into the .ttc export - Set the OS/2 codepage bit for cp1250 (Central European) so Windows applications report Slovak and Czech support - Raised usWinAscent to 989 so carons are not clipped on Windows - Shipped as TTF (desktop), WOFF2 and WOFF (web) 28 Jul 2026 (Peter Voronak) v1.003 - Fixed Ccaron (U+010C): the glyph was a plain copy of C with no caron at all. Rebuilt as a composite of C plus caron, positioned to match Dcaron exactly (caron spanning y 749-890, horizontally centred on the letter). - Audited every precomposed glyph against its base letter; Ccaron was the only one with a missing accent. 28 Jul 2026 (Peter Voronak) v1.004 - Rehinted the whole font with ttfautohint. The instructions inherited from the original export were per-glyph and inconsistent: at 13 ppem and 32 ppem they rounded the top edge of u, v and x up while a, c, e, n, o, s and z rounded down, so the x-height was off by one pixel on those letters. Verified consistent from 11 to 64 ppem after rehinting. - Outlines are untouched; only the hinting instructions changed. Known gaps ---------- - Single weight only. Applications will synthesise bold and italic. - section (U+00A7) is not included. - Caron heights are inconsistent between glyphs, inherited from the rework: uppercase Ecaron, Scaron and Tcaron sit 100 units above cap height while Ccaron, Dcaron, Ncaron, Rcaron and Zcaron sit about 30 units above it; lowercase ncaron and rcaron sit 32 units above the x-height while the others sit 139 units above it. - In lcaron and tcaron the mark overlaps the ascender of the base letter.
